Build a Research Agent

An agent that gathers information and synthesizes insights.

Research agents help you understand the world. They search, summarize, compare, and synthesize — turning scattered information into clear, structured knowledge you can use.

1. Create the Agent

Create a new research agent:

playnex agent create

Use these values:

  • Name: research-agent
  • Purpose: You gather information, analyze sources, and synthesize insights clearly and accurately.
  • Model: Choose a local model optimized for reasoning.

2. Add Research Tools

Give your agent the ability to search and analyze:

playnex agent add-tool research-agent

Select tools such as:

  • Web Browser — gather sources and data
  • Document Analyzer — extract insights from PDFs or text
  • File Writer — save research summaries

3. Start a Research Session

Open a chat session:

playnex agent chat research-agent

Try asking:

“Research the history of local-first software and summarize the key ideas.”

Your agent will gather information, analyze it, and produce a structured summary.

4. Save Research Into Capsules

Ask your agent:

“Save this research as a capsule.”

Or manually:

playnex capsule create

Capsules become your research archive — a growing library of insights.

5. Compare and Synthesize

Research agents excel at synthesis. Try:

“Compare these two sources and summarize the differences.”

Or:

“Extract the key themes across all my research capsules.”

Your agent becomes a thinking partner — someone who helps you understand complexity and see patterns.
